Wisdom teeth?

I have had my teeth extracted before for braces but I believe i have to extract my wisdom teeth soon. I had a specialist come in and when he extracted my regular teeth all i felt was pressure and no pain at all and it took about two minutes each tooth. I was wondering if anyone remember if their wisdom teeth extraction pain DURING surgery or their wisdom teeth extraction experience do you remember how it felt ? Did it feel like a normal extraction? I might not be sleeping during this procedure. trying to compare normal teeth extraction(pain free for me just pressure) and wisdom teeth extraction(soon to have)

Wisdom teeth?
They generally put you to sleep (general anesthesia) to extract wisdom teeth because it%26#039;s more complicated than just pulling a molar (depending on how they have grown in)--so you shouldn%26#039;t feel anything during the operation. I was a little nervous before and sore afterward (when I wasn%26#039;t doped up on pain meds), but it%26#039;s not something to be afraid of. Good luck!
Reply:You should really be put under anesthesia for this procedure. It is more painful than normal tooth extractions, and it is actually a pretty serious operation. I was put under, and after I woke up it was very painful, so I can just imagine what it would feel like if you were kept awake during the procedure. Just take your pain medications and ice your cheeks (so they don%26#039;t swell), eat soft foods so your stitches don%26#039;t break, etc. and it will be okay.
Reply:Wisdom teeth are alot less painful because the root is not always fully grown. At least that is what the dentist told me. I went to work the same day, the pain killers helped.
Reply:alright, this all depends on the position of your teeth. i am not gonna lie when i got it done it hurt. I was not asleep. You can be asleep if you choose so. Depending on ow far up your tooth is, that measues your pain. If your tooth is way down there than you might have to get a chunk of your gum taken off. Normally the typical difference between a wisdom teeth extraction and a normal one is that you can be asleep and you do get stitches. Most of the time they are liquid stitches and will eventually dissolve. hopefully your wisdom teeth aren%26#039;t impacted or Maybe for you it won%26#039;t be bad. I hope this helps.
Reply:There is a misconception that removal of wisdom teeth is more painful than other teeth. If a wisdom tooth has grown into its correct position and has to be removed due to excessive decay then the tooth can be numbed up like any other tooth and removed without any pain whatsoever.

The pain that people associate with wisdom teeth removal is when the teeth do not erupt correctly and are firmly fixed within the bone of the jaw. Some bone has to be removed in order to get the wisdom tooth out and as a result of this bone removal process you get swelling and discomfort after the procedure, not during.
Reply:they generally put you to sleep to extract your wisdom teeth. they are big teeth, that typically are VERY deep, so they do hurt alot afterwards from what i hear.

im scheduled to get 4 out in two days.... ouch!
Reply:I couldnt afford to go to hospital to get them taken out, so had it done in the chair half conscious. I was very sleepy, but it was sooo sore afterwards! I could not even begin to imagine how painful it would be without anesthetic (excuse the spelling!) Its very different from a normal extraction. They have to make incisions into the gum to get the teeth out and then give you stitches.

Also i couldnt take the painkillers they gave me for recovery because i found out i was allergic to the coedine which was in them. Not a fun way to find out! Would not wish it on anyone!!
Reply:Well, I%26#039;m getting them done today.

I%26#039;m so scared.

But I read this blog

It%26#039;s a really vivid description of when he got his wisdom teeth taken out.

You should read it. it%26#039;s actually pretty funny. On the downside I%26#039;m even more scared of the pain to come...

Why are my teeth so messed up...?

Well, for a long time my teeth have been very bad, I never lost all my baby teeth and I have never had braces. Everytime I went to the orthodontist all he did was look at my teeth and tell me to wait. I assume he was waiting for the baby teeth to fall out. I am 16 and I have the worst smile. My two front teeth are straight and the teeth next to it are tilted, next two teeth on each side have nothing and the rest of my teeth are straight baby teeth. How can I fix this.... What am I supposed to do? I have over 6 baby teeth at age 16 and I am almost 17.

Why are my teeth so messed up...?
did you tell the orthodontist you needed braces? maybe you should change orthodontists! your teeth seem really crooked and if he cant take it seriously... you should have had braces when you were 11,12,or 13. sorry to tell you this, but braces will hurt more for you because your teeth are now in a position which they have been in for a while and it will take more time to move them. hope this helped!

Reply:This is crazy, I think you%26#039;ll have to wait it out, you should ask about your xrays and ask if your permenant teeth have formed yet, (might not of formed cuz they%26#039;d be pushing out your baby teeth.) there could be a rare possibility that they never formed, and u could only have your baby teeth, ask your orthodontist about it.
Reply:Some people adults still have baby teeth... this is not uncommon... with out seeing your xrays I have no idea if you have adult teeth under the remaining baby teeth...you need to find a dentist/orthodontist and get some answers... your teeth can be straight and your self esteem improved. your not to old to start this process... I am 44 and have braces so go for it get the smile you want and deserve

I'm sure my teeth are moving (crowding)- how can I retain them from moving for VERY CHEAP?

Well, about 3 years ago, I had to get 4 crowns on my 4 of my molar teeth. I use to have straight teeth with a very small crowding on just one tooth on my front bottom teeth. But ever since the crowns, my bottom-front teeth have become very crowded. It%26#039;s nothing obvious that you can spot by me speaking, but is surely is obvious if I look at my bottom teeth from a above-view angle and other angles. Thefefore, it%26#039;s also pressuring my top-front teeth due to the crooked 2 bottom-front teeth. Many times I wake up with sore front teeth.

I really want Invisalign, but have virtually NO money to spend.

Is there a way I can retain my teeth from getting worse for very cheap? I have virtually no money to spend.

Also, how can I check how much my teeth move between, lets say, a 1 month interval?

Thank you all very much! I appreciate any relevant input.

I%26#039;m sure my teeth are moving (crowding)- how can I retain them from moving for VERY CHEAP?
Unfortunately, if you had a bit of crowding before, your teeth will probably continue to slip out of alignment more over time. This is very common and is usually treated by some type of orthondontics, whether traditional or invisalign.

So, that being said, I would talk to your dentist and see if they can fit you with a retainer to wear at night. If not a retainer you can remove than perhaps they can put a permanent retainer for you. A permanent retainer is a wire they cement to the back of the teeth that is thin and unobtursive. Or you might try getting a mouth guard to wear at night (like a boil in the pan sports mouth guard) to act as a cushion between your upper and lower teeth. It will help reduce the pressure on the front teeth and if you are grinding your teeth (which you may not know) than it will help for that too. Good luck

Reply:What about a simple retainer to wear at night? Much cheaper and might keep them from continuing to move.

Getting teeth pulled for braces! Help!?

Hey everyone. I%26#039;m new to Yahoo, and I%26#039;m just wondering if the helpful people here can help me out. Recently I switched dentists, and on my first trip (just for cleaning), the dentist noticed that a pair of my teeth were still baby teeth, but they were stuck in my mouth as hard as rock. She did an x-ray, and found out that I was born without adult teeth there. Here%26#039;s a picture, not of my mouth, but I labeled it as if it were mine.

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v189/a...

Anyway, we need to pull those 2 so that I don’t have 2 baby teeth when the rest are adults, and so they don%26#039;t ware down easily. So I%26#039;m getting fake ones in, then I%26#039;m getting braces because the teeth (circled in yellow in the picture) have adult teeth above them, which are going sideways. Luckily I have space in my jaw. So I don%26#039;t fear of getting the braces on, actually I look forward to it. The part I regret is getting the teeth pulled. More info in my next post.

Getting teeth pulled for braces! Help!?
1. What is it like to get teeth pulled?

Depends on who is doing it. If you are comfortable with your dentist, then you should be okay.

2. What is the process?

You are numbed, a wedge is stuck in your mouth so you can%26#039;t bite down, the dentist yanks out the tooth with pliers while the assistant might hold your head steady.

3. How does it feel during/after they are pulled?

You are told to take Ibuprofin for the pain. If you need something stronger, they should give you a perscription. It feels weird at first to have a blank space in your mouth, but you get used to it. The gum will be sensitive and you%26#039;ll drool blood a lot.

4. What is the most painful part, and if you can, describe how painful?

If it is done correctly, the process itself should not be painful. It is afterwards that you have to take meds and relax and recover. The blood is scary, but it only bleeds, like, 8 hours!

Good luck!
Reply:when they pull them they give u a shot %26amp; laughing gas.
Reply:The most painful part is the needle in the gums to numb you, but it%26#039;s not unbearable. Then they just yank them out unceremoniously. Afterward, you shouldnt smoke or drink out of a straw to avoid dry socket. And they%26#039;ll give you pain meds to make you feels better. I had three pulled for braces, and it wasnt so bad.
Reply:it doesn%26#039;t hurt much because they put anesthesia so that mostly puts out the pain

although they will inject you several times in order to numb it and that does hurt

you wont feel much although you will feel a lot of tugging because i had two baby molars removed and the first time they did not tell me and they took it out

it was later that i realized they had taken out a molar

they recently took an adult tooth out in order to put braces and it doesn%26#039;t hurt but they will tell you to put a gauze over it and keep it their like for a day and mostly thats all

it will feel like your missing something in your mouth later on
Reply:I had 4 teeth pulled of braces and was only numbed for it.Honestly it didnt hurt that bad as i thought.More then likely though they will either put u out or give u laughing gas for it.and u wont feel a thing well the procedure is going on.Normally they will give u some form of pain meds after the procedure and if they dont u can just take tylenol.

Your mouth will bleed for awhile.at least a day if not more.Just sleeping woud be the best thing until the pain goes away.
Reply:it doesnt hurt much at all. I%26#039;m 13 and I%26#039;ve had 5 baby teeth pulled and 4 adult teeth pulled for room in my mouth b4 braces. this sounds weird, but the worse part is the novacan shot and not the actual teeth being pulled. The novacan shots are just a couple quick pinches. Thats all. The teeth actutally being pulled is the least painful part. they numb you up real good so you don%26#039;t feel a thing. If I could handle having my first tooth pulled at the age 8 (plus, im a girl), Im sure You%26#039;ll be fine
Reply:i just had that done a while ago they will put wire on your stomach then they will give you laughing gas to put you to sleep try not be nervous. it didnt hurt but my mouth was swollen and sore so i couldnt eat much but soup and ice cream for a couple days and they give you pain killers too

So many teeth problems!!?

so thanks to my moms great genetics, i am missing an adult tooth. it is the tooth next to the front right one, i believe the eye tooth? anyways, my baby one fell out about a year ago in soccer, and i immediatly had a fake replacement put on. so tonight it just fell out while i was brushing my teeth. all that is there is a wire attaching to the two adjacent teeth that used to have the fake tooth on it. i am going to try to get into the dentist in the morning, but what are they going to do?

1. i need an implant soon because i am 18

2. i need my wisdom teeth out in about a month

3. i may need braces/invisalign before my implant due to some spacing

3. i refuse to have a %26quot;flipper%26quot; retainer with a tooth on it

do you think theyll just put another fakie in there for now even though i need braces/ wisdom teeth out? wont it just get in the way??

im so confused

So many teeth problems!!?
You can get the implant if you have adequate space and bone. They may need to do the ortho/braces first to make the space big enough for an implant. The braces will not get in the way of having your wisdom teeth extracted. They could put a %26quot;fake%26quot; tooth on the braces. After the braces come off and you get the implant, you will probably have to have a flipper. Just remember, they are just temporary until it%26#039;s time to uncover and put a crown on the implant. Good Luck!

Teeth problems... stain!?

oki, so abt a year ago i always had perfectly white teeth, well a natural white obviously!

now, sometimes my two front teeth are like stained, and have yellowed :-/ the tooth apart from having a yellowish colour, has like small lines which are darker than the rest of the tooth!! i wash my teeth everyday, dont smoke, and drinks coffee about twice every week! sometimes i dont even have coffee!! im currently not on antibiotics...

i dont know whats causing this. can any of you help or tell me if this had happened to you?

when i went to the denstist, the lines werent there and he told me not to smoke or drink too much tea or coffee. i also notice that they dirty pretty easily, every time after i eat something :/

i use toothpaste with higher flouride than the usual toothpastes.

sometimes when i wash my teeth, my gums bleed... could it be that these gums are effecting my teeth? im only 18 btw! :-/

please, real help or advice would be appreciated!!

Teeth problems... stain!?

Read this it will explain everything. Trust me you are not alone.
Reply:Do you also brush your tongue? It is very important to clean your tongue as this carries germs and will cause odor. Maybe this affects your teeth, who knows! I can suggest using Crest White strips the Classic ones, they really freaking work!! I only used one box and didn%26#039;t even use the whole 14 days worth of them and I got great results. My teeth got pretty white! Do stay away from coffee, teas and smoking, they will cause stains! For the bleeding you should consult your dentist. I also had bleeding in one particular area in my gums. It was a particle of food which was stuck in my gums and I couldn%26#039;t reach it by flossing alone. The hygienist removed it and showed me how big the particle was. The bleeding stopped the very same day!
Reply:There may be a calcium deficiency going on. Do not try those whiting strips they do not work very well. I would seek another dentist and get his/her opinion.

Your gums may be bleeding from brushing too hard.

Did you recently have braises taken off? I had a problem with stains after mine came off and had a dentist look at my front teeth and after a few fluoride treatments the stains faded. (Not an actor white) But my teeth started to get the natural whiteness back.

Now if you do drink sodas; stay away from anything with a dye in it, big contributor to stains, more than you realize.
Reply:wait until you go back to the dentist - he will polish them for you - they feel great afterwards...:)

If it's wisdom tooth or normal teeth?

Hi, lately i just had my 2 wisdom tooth extracted, it was so big which was like normal teeth, i%26#039;m not sure if the dentist had lied to me. One of the wisdom tooth look so much alike a normal big tooth but she claimed it%26#039;s wisdom tooth. The prices of extracting a normal tooth and wisdom tooth has a big difference....Is there any way to tell the difference or pics? I still got 2 more wisdom tooth to be extracted but it really look like a big teeth to me....How many teeth does a adult should have?? Pls help....Tysm for replies

If it%26#039;s wisdom tooth or normal teeth?
Some ppl don%26#039;t have any wisdom teeth at all! Like me. But people can have up to 4 wisdom teeth. Here is a picture of one: http://i13.tinypic.com/536fk7o.jpg
Reply:Wisdom teeth are normal teeth. The reason that they are called wisdom teeth is because they don%26#039;t emerge until you are in your twenties, by which time you are supposed to be wise. They are the final four teeth at the very back of your mouth. Don%26#039;t have them removed unless they are causing you problems. There%26#039;s no reason. Once they come in, you should have 32 teeth total.
Reply:The wisdom teeth are your very very back teeth. They are the same size as a molar tooth. Which means they are big. You should have 32 teeth. 4 of them are wisdom teeth. The only way you can teeth the difference is by telling with your finger in your mouth to see if it is the last one....you should have 3 big molars including the wisdom tooth if the tooth has come thru the gum and is not impacted. Also if you know what you are looking at look at the xrays...request to. They will show you the three big molars on the xrays. The price difference is because wisdom teeth are much harder to extract.
Reply:I doubt very seriously they are gonna lie about removing a wisdom tooth. I have never heard of anyone doing that before. If they were the ones in the very back of your mouth they were your wisdom.
Reply:CHILL DOWN. THE DENTIST DIDN%26#039;T LIE TO YOU. IF SHE PULLED OUT A WISDOM TOOTH THAT%26#039;S WHAT HAPPENED. THESE ARE BIGGER THAN BABY TEETH. DON%26#039;T WORRY.
