I have had my teeth extracted before for braces but I believe i have to extract my wisdom teeth soon. I had a specialist come in and when he extracted my regular teeth all i felt was pressure and no pain at all and it took about two minutes each tooth. I was wondering if anyone remember if their wisdom teeth extraction pain DURING surgery or their wisdom teeth extraction experience do you remember how it felt ? Did it feel like a normal extraction? I might not be sleeping during this procedure. trying to compare normal teeth extraction(pain free for me just pressure) and wisdom teeth extraction(soon to have)
Wisdom teeth?
They generally put you to sleep (general anesthesia) to extract wisdom teeth because it%26#039;s more complicated than just pulling a molar (depending on how they have grown in)--so you shouldn%26#039;t feel anything during the operation. I was a little nervous before and sore afterward (when I wasn%26#039;t doped up on pain meds), but it%26#039;s not something to be afraid of. Good luck!
Reply:You should really be put under anesthesia for this procedure. It is more painful than normal tooth extractions, and it is actually a pretty serious operation. I was put under, and after I woke up it was very painful, so I can just imagine what it would feel like if you were kept awake during the procedure. Just take your pain medications and ice your cheeks (so they don%26#039;t swell), eat soft foods so your stitches don%26#039;t break, etc. and it will be okay.
Reply:Wisdom teeth are alot less painful because the root is not always fully grown. At least that is what the dentist told me. I went to work the same day, the pain killers helped.
Reply:alright, this all depends on the position of your teeth. i am not gonna lie when i got it done it hurt. I was not asleep. You can be asleep if you choose so. Depending on ow far up your tooth is, that measues your pain. If your tooth is way down there than you might have to get a chunk of your gum taken off. Normally the typical difference between a wisdom teeth extraction and a normal one is that you can be asleep and you do get stitches. Most of the time they are liquid stitches and will eventually dissolve. hopefully your wisdom teeth aren%26#039;t impacted or Maybe for you it won%26#039;t be bad. I hope this helps.
Reply:There is a misconception that removal of wisdom teeth is more painful than other teeth. If a wisdom tooth has grown into its correct position and has to be removed due to excessive decay then the tooth can be numbed up like any other tooth and removed without any pain whatsoever.
The pain that people associate with wisdom teeth removal is when the teeth do not erupt correctly and are firmly fixed within the bone of the jaw. Some bone has to be removed in order to get the wisdom tooth out and as a result of this bone removal process you get swelling and discomfort after the procedure, not during.
Reply:they generally put you to sleep to extract your wisdom teeth. they are big teeth, that typically are VERY deep, so they do hurt alot afterwards from what i hear.
im scheduled to get 4 out in two days.... ouch!
Reply:I couldnt afford to go to hospital to get them taken out, so had it done in the chair half conscious. I was very sleepy, but it was sooo sore afterwards! I could not even begin to imagine how painful it would be without anesthetic (excuse the spelling!) Its very different from a normal extraction. They have to make incisions into the gum to get the teeth out and then give you stitches.
Also i couldnt take the painkillers they gave me for recovery because i found out i was allergic to the coedine which was in them. Not a fun way to find out! Would not wish it on anyone!!
Reply:Well, I%26#039;m getting them done today.
I%26#039;m so scared.
But I read this blog
It%26#039;s a really vivid description of when he got his wisdom teeth taken out.
You should read it. it%26#039;s actually pretty funny. On the downside I%26#039;m even more scared of the pain to come...

Why are my teeth so messed up...?
Well, for a long time my teeth have been very bad, I never lost all my baby teeth and I have never had braces. Everytime I went to the orthodontist all he did was look at my teeth and tell me to wait. I assume he was waiting for the baby teeth to fall out. I am 16 and I have the worst smile. My two front teeth are straight and the teeth next to it are tilted, next two teeth on each side have nothing and the rest of my teeth are straight baby teeth. How can I fix this.... What am I supposed to do? I have over 6 baby teeth at age 16 and I am almost 17.
Why are my teeth so messed up...?
did you tell the orthodontist you needed braces? maybe you should change orthodontists! your teeth seem really crooked and if he cant take it seriously... you should have had braces when you were 11,12,or 13. sorry to tell you this, but braces will hurt more for you because your teeth are now in a position which they have been in for a while and it will take more time to move them. hope this helped!

Reply:This is crazy, I think you%26#039;ll have to wait it out, you should ask about your xrays and ask if your permenant teeth have formed yet, (might not of formed cuz they%26#039;d be pushing out your baby teeth.) there could be a rare possibility that they never formed, and u could only have your baby teeth, ask your orthodontist about it.
Reply:Some people adults still have baby teeth... this is not uncommon... with out seeing your xrays I have no idea if you have adult teeth under the remaining baby teeth...you need to find a dentist/orthodontist and get some answers... your teeth can be straight and your self esteem improved. your not to old to start this process... I am 44 and have braces so go for it get the smile you want and deserve

I'm sure my teeth are moving (crowding)- how can I retain them from moving for VERY CHEAP?
Well, about 3 years ago, I had to get 4 crowns on my 4 of my molar teeth. I use to have straight teeth with a very small crowding on just one tooth on my front bottom teeth. But ever since the crowns, my bottom-front teeth have become very crowded. It%26#039;s nothing obvious that you can spot by me speaking, but is surely is obvious if I look at my bottom teeth from a above-view angle and other angles. Thefefore, it%26#039;s also pressuring my top-front teeth due to the crooked 2 bottom-front teeth. Many times I wake up with sore front teeth.
I really want Invisalign, but have virtually NO money to spend.
Is there a way I can retain my teeth from getting worse for very cheap? I have virtually no money to spend.
Also, how can I check how much my teeth move between, lets say, a 1 month interval?
Thank you all very much! I appreciate any relevant input.

Unfortunately, if you had a bit of crowding before, your teeth will probably continue to slip out of alignment more over time. This is very common and is usually treated by some type of orthondontics, whether traditional or invisalign.
So, that being said, I would talk to your dentist and see if they can fit you with a retainer to wear at night. If not a retainer you can remove than perhaps they can put a permanent retainer for you. A permanent retainer is a wire they cement to the back of the teeth that is thin and unobtursive. Or you might try getting a mouth guard to wear at night (like a boil in the pan sports mouth guard) to act as a cushion between your upper and lower teeth. It will help reduce the pressure on the front teeth and if you are grinding your teeth (which you may not know) than it will help for that too. Good luck

Getting teeth pulled for braces! Help!?
Hey everyone. I%26#039;m new to Yahoo, and I%26#039;m just wondering if the helpful people here can help me out. Recently I switched dentists, and on my first trip (just for cleaning), the dentist noticed that a pair of my teeth were still baby teeth, but they were stuck in my mouth as hard as rock. She did an x-ray, and found out that I was born without adult teeth there. Here%26#039;s a picture, not of my mouth, but I labeled it as if it were mine.
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v189/a...
Anyway, we need to pull those 2 so that I don’t have 2 baby teeth when the rest are adults, and so they don%26#039;t ware down easily. So I%26#039;m getting fake ones in, then I%26#039;m getting braces because the teeth (circled in yellow in the picture) have adult teeth above them, which are going sideways. Luckily I have space in my jaw. So I don%26#039;t fear of getting the braces on, actually I look forward to it. The part I regret is getting the teeth pulled. More info in my next post.
Getting teeth pulled for braces! Help!?
1. What is it like to get teeth pulled?
Depends on who is doing it. If you are comfortable with your dentist, then you should be okay.
2. What is the process?
You are numbed, a wedge is stuck in your mouth so you can%26#039;t bite down, the dentist yanks out the tooth with pliers while the assistant might hold your head steady.
3. How does it feel during/after they are pulled?
You are told to take Ibuprofin for the pain. If you need something stronger, they should give you a perscription. It feels weird at first to have a blank space in your mouth, but you get used to it. The gum will be sensitive and you%26#039;ll drool blood a lot.
4. What is the most painful part, and if you can, describe how painful?
If it is done correctly, the process itself should not be painful. It is afterwards that you have to take meds and relax and recover. The blood is scary, but it only bleeds, like, 8 hours!
Good luck!
Reply:when they pull them they give u a shot %26amp; laughing gas.
Reply:The most painful part is the needle in the gums to numb you, but it%26#039;s not unbearable. Then they just yank them out unceremoniously. Afterward, you shouldnt smoke or drink out of a straw to avoid dry socket. And they%26#039;ll give you pain meds to make you feels better. I had three pulled for braces, and it wasnt so bad.
Reply:it doesn%26#039;t hurt much because they put anesthesia so that mostly puts out the pain
although they will inject you several times in order to numb it and that does hurt
you wont feel much although you will feel a lot of tugging because i had two baby molars removed and the first time they did not tell me and they took it out
it was later that i realized they had taken out a molar
they recently took an adult tooth out in order to put braces and it doesn%26#039;t hurt but they will tell you to put a gauze over it and keep it their like for a day and mostly thats all
it will feel like your missing something in your mouth later on
Reply:I had 4 teeth pulled of braces and was only numbed for it.Honestly it didnt hurt that bad as i thought.More then likely though they will either put u out or give u laughing gas for it.and u wont feel a thing well the procedure is going on.Normally they will give u some form of pain meds after the procedure and if they dont u can just take tylenol.
Your mouth will bleed for awhile.at least a day if not more.Just sleeping woud be the best thing until the pain goes away.
Reply:it doesnt hurt much at all. I%26#039;m 13 and I%26#039;ve had 5 baby teeth pulled and 4 adult teeth pulled for room in my mouth b4 braces. this sounds weird, but the worse part is the novacan shot and not the actual teeth being pulled. The novacan shots are just a couple quick pinches. Thats all. The teeth actutally being pulled is the least painful part. they numb you up real good so you don%26#039;t feel a thing. If I could handle having my first tooth pulled at the age 8 (plus, im a girl), Im sure You%26#039;ll be fine
Reply:i just had that done a while ago they will put wire on your stomach then they will give you laughing gas to put you to sleep try not be nervous. it didnt hurt but my mouth was swollen and sore so i couldnt eat much but soup and ice cream for a couple days and they give you pain killers too

So many teeth problems!!?
so thanks to my moms great genetics, i am missing an adult tooth. it is the tooth next to the front right one, i believe the eye tooth? anyways, my baby one fell out about a year ago in soccer, and i immediatly had a fake replacement put on. so tonight it just fell out while i was brushing my teeth. all that is there is a wire attaching to the two adjacent teeth that used to have the fake tooth on it. i am going to try to get into the dentist in the morning, but what are they going to do?
1. i need an implant soon because i am 18
2. i need my wisdom teeth out in about a month
3. i may need braces/invisalign before my implant due to some spacing
3. i refuse to have a %26quot;flipper%26quot; retainer with a tooth on it
do you think theyll just put another fakie in there for now even though i need braces/ wisdom teeth out? wont it just get in the way??
im so confused
So many teeth problems!!?
You can get the implant if you have adequate space and bone. They may need to do the ortho/braces first to make the space big enough for an implant. The braces will not get in the way of having your wisdom teeth extracted. They could put a %26quot;fake%26quot; tooth on the braces. After the braces come off and you get the implant, you will probably have to have a flipper. Just remember, they are just temporary until it%26#039;s time to uncover and put a crown on the implant. Good Luck!

Teeth problems... stain!?
oki, so abt a year ago i always had perfectly white teeth, well a natural white obviously!
now, sometimes my two front teeth are like stained, and have yellowed :-/ the tooth apart from having a yellowish colour, has like small lines which are darker than the rest of the tooth!! i wash my teeth everyday, dont smoke, and drinks coffee about twice every week! sometimes i dont even have coffee!! im currently not on antibiotics...
i dont know whats causing this. can any of you help or tell me if this had happened to you?
when i went to the denstist, the lines werent there and he told me not to smoke or drink too much tea or coffee. i also notice that they dirty pretty easily, every time after i eat something :/
i use toothpaste with higher flouride than the usual toothpastes.
sometimes when i wash my teeth, my gums bleed... could it be that these gums are effecting my teeth? im only 18 btw! :-/
please, real help or advice would be appreciated!!

try mixing toothpaste and baking soda and brushing your teeth with it if that doesnt work than get a cotton ball dipped in some peroxide a dab it on the tooth
now dont drown yourself in it you know how much is too much mmkay

Reply:Do you also brush your tongue? It is very important to clean your tongue as this carries germs and will cause odor. Maybe this affects your teeth, who knows! I can suggest using Crest White strips the Classic ones, they really freaking work!! I only used one box and didn%26#039;t even use the whole 14 days worth of them and I got great results. My teeth got pretty white! Do stay away from coffee, teas and smoking, they will cause stains! For the bleeding you should consult your dentist. I also had bleeding in one particular area in my gums. It was a particle of food which was stuck in my gums and I couldn%26#039;t reach it by flossing alone. The hygienist removed it and showed me how big the particle was. The bleeding stopped the very same day!
Reply:There may be a calcium deficiency going on. Do not try those whiting strips they do not work very well. I would seek another dentist and get his/her opinion.
Your gums may be bleeding from brushing too hard.
Did you recently have braises taken off? I had a problem with stains after mine came off and had a dentist look at my front teeth and after a few fluoride treatments the stains faded. (Not an actor white) But my teeth started to get the natural whiteness back.
Now if you do drink sodas; stay away from anything with a dye in it, big contributor to stains, more than you realize.
Reply:wait until you go back to the dentist - he will polish them for you - they feel great afterwards...:)

If it's wisdom tooth or normal teeth?
Hi, lately i just had my 2 wisdom tooth extracted, it was so big which was like normal teeth, i%26#039;m not sure if the dentist had lied to me. One of the wisdom tooth look so much alike a normal big tooth but she claimed it%26#039;s wisdom tooth. The prices of extracting a normal tooth and wisdom tooth has a big difference....Is there any way to tell the difference or pics? I still got 2 more wisdom tooth to be extracted but it really look like a big teeth to me....How many teeth does a adult should have?? Pls help....Tysm for replies
If it%26#039;s wisdom tooth or normal teeth?
Some ppl don%26#039;t have any wisdom teeth at all! Like me. But people can have up to 4 wisdom teeth. Here is a picture of one: http://i13.tinypic.com/536fk7o.jpg
Reply:Wisdom teeth are normal teeth. The reason that they are called wisdom teeth is because they don%26#039;t emerge until you are in your twenties, by which time you are supposed to be wise. They are the final four teeth at the very back of your mouth. Don%26#039;t have them removed unless they are causing you problems. There%26#039;s no reason. Once they come in, you should have 32 teeth total.
Reply:The wisdom teeth are your very very back teeth. They are the same size as a molar tooth. Which means they are big. You should have 32 teeth. 4 of them are wisdom teeth. The only way you can teeth the difference is by telling with your finger in your mouth to see if it is the last one....you should have 3 big molars including the wisdom tooth if the tooth has come thru the gum and is not impacted. Also if you know what you are looking at look at the xrays...request to. They will show you the three big molars on the xrays. The price difference is because wisdom teeth are much harder to extract.
Reply:I doubt very seriously they are gonna lie about removing a wisdom tooth. I have never heard of anyone doing that before. If they were the ones in the very back of your mouth they were your wisdom.
Reply:CHILL DOWN. THE DENTIST DIDN%26#039;T LIE TO YOU. IF SHE PULLED OUT A WISDOM TOOTH THAT%26#039;S WHAT HAPPENED. THESE ARE BIGGER THAN BABY TEETH. DON%26#039;T WORRY.

Teeth spacing problem...?
I know this is going to be hard to follow, however, please try your hardest to understand (I%26#039;ll try to explain my best...)
I%26#039;ve been wearing braces for almost 2 years, 5th to 7th grade. When I first got treatment, they estimated I would get them off in April 2008. I didn%26#039;t have really bad teeth at all. However, I had a pretty bad overbite. Now, my overbite is about gone. However, my top teeth don%26#039;t sit perfectly on my bottom teeth. Meaning like, there are sharper teeth, and don%26#039;t sit well on my bottom teeth. So it%26#039;s like there are spaces between the top and bottom rows of teeth. I know It%26#039;s very confusing, however...I%26#039;m worried. I really want amazing teeth after my braces are off...Is this going to go away? If not, what can I (or my dentist or orthodontist...) do?
Teeth spacing problem...?
I understand what you%26#039;re talking about. I too have braces and will get them off in the next few months. My overbite was bad but Now all myteeth are straight. Mine has more of a roundingon the top. They will make sure everything is all right before your braces are removed. I%26#039;m 58 and still smiling.lol good luck

Pushing Teeth Back Into Place...Good Or Bad?
I%26#039;m a teenager (still a growing boy), and I had braces for two and a half years. My teeth had been quite bad before I had braces, and my braces had to be very tight to get my teeth nice and straight. I%26#039;ve had them off for almost two years now, and lately I%26#039;ve noticed that they%26#039;re kinda going back to their old position...my teeth are losing their perfect straightness.
My orthodontist has told me that I don%26#039;t need to wear my retainer anymore, but I still do because I%26#039;m afraid that if I don%26#039;t, my teeth will go back faster. I think that I%26#039;m still growing, and without the braces to hold my teeth, they%26#039;re naturally going back.
I obsess constantly about it, even if other people tell me they don%26#039;t really notice that my teeth have changed. I now tend to put pressure with my fingers on the teeth to %26quot;push%26quot; them back into place, sort of what braces would do. I do this very often.
Now my question is, does constantly pushing my teeth make it go worse, or keep it from getting worse?
Pushing Teeth Back Into Place...Good Or Bad?
Constant finger pressure if it is going to be effective needs tobe nonstop for min 8 hours, so what you are doing isnt helping at all unless you have the time to do it for 8 hours which i doubt. But with this pressure, you are going to make things worse, you may push your tooth off line as your force is not controlled in direction and magnitude. You rather wear your retainers full time, if they feel tight it means your teeth moved, if they feel loose and your teeth have moved then they may have distorted and hence your teeth moved. Either way do back to your orthy and request that you want the teeth that have moved out of line to be made straight.
Reply:Tell your orthodontist and he will look at it. I don%26#039;t think it%26#039;s good idea to do that though.
Reply:If you push your teeth long enough and hard enough...you can actually start to move them yourself. After you get your braces off, there generally is some movement in the teeth, but it is usually pretty mild. In fact, your lower jaw will grow throughout your life and eventually your lower bottom teeth will crowd somewhat. It happens to everyone...but it takes many years. Wearing your retainer while you sleep will limit any shifting, but isn%26#039;t bulletproof.
Reply:if you keep pushing your teeth back like that..they going to become loose and your dentist wont be able to do anything..but just remove your own loose teeth and give you partials..or maybe even dentures...yes at a young age. so stop and leave your teeth alone.
Reply:well i think it very doubtfull your thunb will do anything. It is unfortunate that you do this howevere probably looks silly. If you think your teeth are moving and you don%26#039;t have faith in your dentist saying a retainer is not needed. Get a secound opinion, don%26#039;t look like a fool for no good reason...Lets
Reply:Actually it doesnt help or rather worsen the situation.
In order to keep ur teeth in position, just kepp on wearing the retainer, its work!
Reply:good get the girls got to have straight teeth
Reply:Wear your retainer. What you are doing by pushing your teeth and thinking about it so often might be the beginning of obsessing over your teeth. And that is not dental, it%26#039;s psychological.
Just to be on the safe side, you can go to a different orthodontist and let them see if the other orthodontist did the right thing.

Teeth rotting?
Ok, so...
2 of my top front teeth are rotting away from behind the teeth. The rotted gap is so big now, you can see where theyve rotted from the front, its like the rotted part of my teeth are semi transparent. The teeth are my my middle right tooh and the one to the right of that. So thats the right big one and the one to the right of that. The two rotted holes are next to each other, making it FEEL like one big whole when i rub my tongue on it. To be blunt, it looks disgusting, and no matter how much i seem to treat my teeth (brushing etc) its just getting bigger, and pretty soon its just going to be a gap, like its been chipped or part of the tooth is missing.
What is my best option? Ive thought about getting like a false tooth put there but apprently it costs a lot and my families quite poor...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Teeth rotting?
Check with one of your local dental colleges. They will treat you for a minimal cost. I live in LA, and I know a few people, who go there regularly. You should go soon, as you have decay.

Reply:As everybody says, go to a dentist. After a while, they won%26#039;t just look bad, they%26#039;re going to start aching. If you don%26#039;t have the money for a dental visit, try going to a dental teaching school. The students there work on your teeth for really cheep, but they are closely supervised. They may be able to do some whilte filling, or even a cap.
Reply:You could talk to your Dentist there might be other options or if you are living in the UK see if you can find an NHS Dentist.
Reply:Hmm... it sounds pretty bad...I have to repeat the same answer for another time... consult your dentist... the longer you wait, the more problem your teeth will create for you...and it will definitely cost you more as time goes by. Talk to your dentist and find a solution for your problem.
Since the problem area lies with your top front teeth, it is going to affect your appearance as well... you are going to lose out more if you let this problem goes on.
Reply:You don%26#039;t say where you live but if in the UK then you need to register with a NHS Dentist. I know that even then some treatments can be expensive but you need to enquire at the surgery as if you are on certain benefits then a lot of treatment is free. I feel real sorry for you as I had to sit by and watch my friend%26#039;s teeth fall out one by one. This was because she had gum disease because of diabetes. I wish you well and hope you get your teeth sorted.
Reply:I have bad teeth too and no insurance or money. Medicaid doesn%26#039;t do anything with dental. You could contact a dental school near you that could offer care at reduced or free rates. This is done by students studing to be dentists and the dentist checks their work. It is a slight risk but you need to get this taken care of.
Reply:mate u have to go to the dentist after 4 years from running from the dentist last monday i went and had 2 teeth pulled out as mine had been rotting away, now i have to go in hospital and have anever five out scarey have a gum infection. u have to go to dentist if u want to save u teeth.
Reply:Go to the dentist please.
My mum never took me regularly, my last visit was at the age of 9.
Recently, my sister died, she had been ill for a long time and she was so brave and watching her made me feel silly about not going to the dentist, made me think if she can cope with all she has to go through, surely I can visit a blooming dentist. I was extremely lucky, i went and everything was fine, i didnt need any fillings and have reached 30, but go because they will try and sort something out for you, they won%26#039;t want to leave you in any kind of discomfort.
Good luck. :-D

Why are my teeth so bad???
I brush my teeth every night and day, twice a day, and I floss once 2... But every time I go to the dentist I get a cavity... :%26#039;( My brother doesn%26#039;t always brush his teeth and never got a cavity.. not once... I just recently looked into the mirror and saw some black on my upper tooth but a lot of white... I had to floss 10 times, use a tooth pick, and use the water squirting thing to get the food out... it took about an hour and now I have a really bad cavity that I didn%26#039;t even notice... I brushed my teeth every day and flossed too but food always gets in and i always get a cavity... I only have a cavity on 2 perminent teeth with a filling but I had tons on my baby teeth... before all my gum was out on my 12 yr onld moller I had a cavity on that one.. Is there anything the dentist can put or do to my teeth that all my permanent teeth don%26#039;t get wreched??? My mom says it%26#039;s the shape of my teeth that causes all the cavities...
Why are my teeth so bad???
Maybe you drink too much softdrink %26amp; eat crap food. Also you should consider using mouthwash %26amp; believe it or not - a lot of bacteria sits on your tongue (it should be cleaned too). Too much antibiotics during the growth stage of the outer %26quot;dentine%26quot; layer of a tooth (even when it is below the gum surface) - can also make it easier to decay later on. Check with a dentist as to better hygiene.
Reply:Are you brushing the enamal off your teeth? Check with your dentist
Reply:This sounds like something you need to address with your dentist.
Some people are just cavitiy prone. It has to do with their enamel.
Do not be embarassed, your dentist isn%26#039;t judging you and if he his you need a new one!
Reply:It may be that your teeth are closer together or have naturally deeper grooves that harvests plaque and sugar. Lay off the sugar gum and the candy. Rinse your mouth after meals or snacks. Maybe you%26#039;re not brushing correctly? Make sure you tell your dentist and he can prescribe a different toothbrush or paste?
Reply:As unfortunate as it is, some people are just more predisposed to cavities and tooth decay. It%26#039;s aggrivating that some try so hard to keep their teeth perfect and just can%26#039;t seem to while others just don%26#039;t care and have no cavities or any problems, but it%26#039;s how it goes.
I would make sure that you%26#039;re getting enough calcium and vitamin D, because calcium deficieny will definately have adverse effects on teeth. Milk, in this case, certainly does do a body good.
Also, while it is discouraging, just know that you won%26#039;t have to keep going to the dentist for these reasons forever. Just in a bad streak of dental health, but it%26#039;ll end before you know it with your brushing habits. Hang in there!
Reply:watch your diet. If you drink alot of soda, or sugary things; it could leave you more prone to decay. Try cavity protections toothpaste and make sure you are rinsing your mouth completely after brushing; toothpaste can be abrasive.
Talk to your dentist about it. I%26#039;m sure he has great suggestions; he may even recommend a certain type of treatment.

Reply:It may be that you have deep grooves in the top of your teeth. No matter how much you brush you can%26#039;t get every bit out of those deep grooves. Try getting an electric toothbrush, and only use it on the top of your teeth. It can wear down your gums if you use it on the sides.... (it%26#039;s like sandblasting them) Also, get a HIGH content flouride toothpaste from your dentist. That will help. ALSO consider getting sealants on your back molars to help protect from cavities. Good luck, and don%26#039;t worry, you%26#039;ll be fine.
Reply:maybe it depends on how much and what you eat like dont eat sugar like candy gum chocolate and stuff like that and it also depends on what toothpaste you use........me........ id always use crest pro-health its only like $5.00 it does everything.
Reply:I%26#039;m not sure how old you are, or if it%26#039;s too late but I got a coating on my daughter%26#039;s teeth when she was around 10 to help prevent cavities. I can%26#039;t remember exactly what it%26#039;s called, though. Other than that, I%26#039;m not sure.
Reply:Your hygiene is not the problem. My husband has also had lots of dental work and cavities and was told he had very immature tooth enamel. I guess that means he%26#039;s more prone to cavities than other people.
Don%26#039;t be embarassed to go to your dentist. They%26#039;ve seen everything. Once while waiting for my husband at the dentist%26#039;s office there was a girl waiting for her appointment drinking a Coke and eating a honey bun. If you brush and floss they can tell. It%26#039;s worth it to go to make sure if you%26#039;re brushing properly and to see if you can have a protective coating put on your teeth. In the meantime, maybe try something like Act rinse for your teeth. It might help especially if you don%26#039;t live in a place that puts flouride in the water.
Reply:Listen up and listen good: TEETH ARE HEREDITARY.
I am sure you are doing everything right. Obviously one of your parents had bad teeth. If you are honestly brushing and flossing every single day, then take a deep breath and give yourself a break. IT ISNT YOUR FAULT. Also, new research has recently been published linking childhood medications and poor tooth enamel leading to cavities. If you were a child with a lot of strep and ear infections and took antibiotics, that may be another reason why you have bad teeth.
I have a twin who has had at least 40 fillings and 15 root canals. She brushes and flosses 3 times a day. I am like your brother and brush only once a day and I don%26#039;t have dental problems. Sometimes she has gone to the dentist twice in one week.
You might need special flouride treatments on your teeth and eventually you may beed your teeth to be capped or crowned. Also, stop drinking sodas and cut WAY down on sweets. They really do rot your teeth.
Good luck.
Reply:Actually, the genetic disposition for dental caries and/or gingivitis is inherited. Your brother got the good genes, you got the bad genes. =( But all is not lost. There is a wealth of information out there about treatment and prevention. Here is an excerpt from one site:
%26quot; Dental sealants can prevent cavities. Sealants are thin plastic-like coating applied to the chewing surfaces of the molars. This coating prevents the accumulation of plaque in the deep grooves on these vulnerable surfaces. Sealants are usually applied on the teeth of children, shortly after the molars erupt. Older people may also benefit from the use of tooth sealants.
Fluoride is often recommended to protect against dental caries. It has been demonstrated that people who ingest fluoride in their drinking water or by fluoride supplements have fewer dental caries. Fluoride ingested when the teeth are developing is incorporated into the structure of the enamel and protects it against the action of acids.
Topical fluoride is also recommended to protect the surface of the teeth. This may include a fluoride toothpaste or mouthwash. Many dentists include application of topical fluoride solutions (applied to a localized area of the teeth) as part of routine visits.%26quot;
And here is the web address: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/...
Please don%26#039;t obsess over this. It really sounds like you are doing a bit of overkill on the dental hygiene. You%26#039;re trying to clean your teeth, after all, not kill snakes.
By the way, if your dentist isn%26#039;t advising you on prevention, instead of just filling cavities when you come in, then you need to talk to your parents about getting another dentist. Someone intent upon preventing cavities, not just fixing them.

Teeth growing over baby teeth, will I need braces?
I%26#039;m kind of young... (I%26#039;m not saying how old I am, lol) so I didn%26#039;t lose all my baby teeth yet... Well my adult teeth sure want to grow in a hurry. Two of my adult teeth are growing over my baby teeth that didn%26#039;t fall out yet! :/ I don%26#039;t have dental insurance yet, so I don%26#039;t know what will happen yet... Will I need braces, or will they just pull out my baby tooth? Or will they pull out my baby tooth, then give me braces?
Teeth growing over baby teeth, will I need braces?
Normally the dentist might pull out the baby teeth so the new teeth can come in properly. In my case they didn%26#039;t do braces but that was a longggggggggggggg time ago. They just had me push on the new tooth to help move it back into place gradually. This was not a total solution and there is no way to tell if you would need braces or not. You do need to go see your dentist to get this taken care of though. Without seeing your mouth there is no way to tell what will happen once they pull the baby teeth.
Reply:I dont think u will need braces.. well not for this reason anyways. the big teeth should just push the baby teeth out as they grow. or the dentist will pull them out. I had baby teeth in when i got my brace agess ago and they had to be pulled out.
Reply:You need to have the baby teeth removed if they aren%26#039;t coming out by themselves. If they stay in, they can make your permanent teeth crooked and then you will definitely need braces. It is worth the expense to see a dentist now, rather than have to pay an orthopedist a huge amount.

Front teeth too big?
I have always had big front teeth that are really long. But when I was 10 years old I had an accident at school which meant that I had to have the bottom quarter of one of my front teeth replaced. The dentists had to sort of sculpt the false part, and they did a really chunky job of it, and its always looked abit longer than the other front tooth since then. On top of that, I had to have braces to align my teeth, instead of pushing my front teeth up to make them look shorter, they were pulled out even further. The braces have been off for around 2 years now, and I can feel the upper end on my tooth just under my gum, so basically the roots have been pulled pretty low.
I will be visiting the dentist again quite soon for a check up, also to see about bleaching the tooth that got blackened by the chip. Would it be worth asking about correcting my front teeth, how much would it cost?
Front teeth too big?
I had 2 large front teeth in the middle. I had the four front teeth ground down with caps on all four teeth
The two middle front teeth were reduced in size and the 2 other teeth to the side were made larger to even things out.
That can get costly. The other alternative is veneers
Reply:I feel your pain my front teeth are a little big to. ya I think it would be worth another try dont go back to the same one if you can help it. and I would say it would cost about $3,000.00 dollars ya I know its a lot but if they do a good job it will be worth it.

Teeth Dream - Brushing teeth and my gums were loose around my teeth...?
I had a dream that I was in my bathroom, looking at my reflection in the mirror while brushing my teeth. As I was brushing my teeth, I could see that my gums were loose around my teeth, but they were not bleeding. I was actually brushing my teeth behind the gum (and my mouth appeared to be bigger in the mirror than in real life). The guy that I am dating was also in the dream, and in the dream was telling me to keep brushing like that every day and it will soon heal and get better. (Something like that) I can remember hearing his voice, but I dont remember seeing him in the mirror. Now that I think about it, I dont know if I saw my own face, I think I was only seeing my teeth in the reflection. Any interpretations?
Teeth Dream - Brushing teeth and my gums were loose around my teeth...?
Hm. Offhand I would say think more about the things you say, and the effects your words have on people, and that your boyfriend is a good influence, and source of advice in your life, he%26#039;s helping you to learn a better way to do things, and a healthier point of view... but it wouldn%26#039;t hurt to have a dental check up either....
Reply:I remembered reading in a dream interpretation manual that falling teeth usually means a death of a person. I%26#039;m not so sure on this one though.
I had this falling teeth dream once, and the next day my friend told me her grandfather died.
Reply:To dream that you have rotten or decaying teeth, forewarns that your health and/or business is in jeopardy. You may have uttered some false or foul words and those words are coming back to haunt you.
To dream that you are brushing your teeth, signifies your level of confidence, struggles and aggressiveness. You need to look out for yourself and your own interest.
Reply:ah, this is a simple one. in fact, i%26#039;ve had this one many, many times. and for all you out there who say its got a deeper meaning, stop looking so hard. put down the manuals. all it is, is that you hate the dentist, and you fear him finding something horribly wrong and having to remove your teeth or otherwise. its one of two things. fear of pain; you dont want to get your teeth pulled or something like that, or fear of being looked down upon because of appearances (eg, toothless). whichever fits you more.

My Teeth...? PLZ HELP?
I Need to Loose 4 Teeth: The two vampire teeth that people have, you know the ones on the top row, and then the ones directly underneath those. I Want Braces Sooooooo Bad because my teeth are wierd looking....? My dentist showed me the X-Rays of my teeth and the teeth that are supposed to be growing in underneath my baby teeth are like RIGHT there!!! They are sooo close to pushing every single baby tooth out its not even funny. My teeth arent really loose, I mean they are, but not X-Tremely loose. any tips on how to lose them?? Please help!! I want braces befor summer, and I dont want to wait to lose them!! Please Help Me!!
My Teeth...? PLZ HELP?
One of the best ways to help loosen teeth is to bite down on a %26quot;Sugar Daddy%26quot; and pull. These are so sticky that the teeth will stick and the resistance will pull them out. Of course, this all depends on how much root structure is remaining on the %26quot;baby%26quot; teeth. If that doesn%26#039;t help maybe your orthodontist can rec commend that these teeth be removed by your dentist. Good Luck and keep on smiling!!!!!
Reply:you can just have them pulled out...go thru surgery its not painful, i did it ...then i got braces
Reply:play with your teeth a lot.. and pull them a little.. if all else fails, just rip them out.. worked for me. i lost 3 teeth in one day once

Teeth extractions for braces?
I%26#039;m 27, I have dull pain all the time from my bite (the pressure is on the UR2 tooth). My dentist says I need another brace (I had braces as a teenager). She says I might need teeth out to make space but as I already had my %26quot;4s%26quot; and wisdoms out, I dont really want any more teeth out (I have 24 teeth, no decay). But I dont want my bite to destroy my upper front teeth...so I dont know. I still have space from my wisdom teeth extractions, maybe my teeth could be pulled back a bit or something. I know its difficult to comment without seeing them/being an ortho but hey, its lunchtime and Im bored.
Teeth extractions for braces?
I want to get braces but they said they have to pull two front-ish teeth out... im too scared and its soooo expensive, so i think i%26#039;ll just have horrible wonky teeth.
It sounds like you have had lots of teeth out, is there nothing else they can do? Otherwise, you just need to grin and bear it, i suppose.
Reply:i would recommend finding out which teeth they are talking about taking out first, as you really need to make an informed decision about this.
moving your teeth all back takes a very long time to do and also can make your face look sunken which i know you would not want, the canine teeth and the front one%26#039;s define your profile and if all are moved back you may not like the result.
sometimes they take out the first molars to make a bit of room but in your case it may be too much space so the 5%26#039;s would be the other option, but again without knowing how much space is needed i cannot advise you on that.
you may have space between your back teeth that the front ones can be spread out into to give you a better bite so moving top and bottom teeth will be needed in any case.
another option to make space if needed is to have about 1mm filed off of each tooth between them where they meet, this does not harm the teeth or make them any weaker.
go to the orthodontist and find out what they recommend as normally you have more than one choice what to do.

Wisdom Teeth?
I have had my wisdom teeth pulled around 9 hours ago and i have moderate pain where the surgery site exists, but also an excruciating pain and tightness in my front lower teeth. it feels as if they are being pushed and crowded. I am aware that crowding occurs naturally and i have had braces for that, however this is an intense feeling of pressure on all the lower front teeth (like 5 or 6). I read a similar question and a DDS and dental student disagreed with lots of people about the idea that wisdom teeth can cause crowding, but what would explain this pain that has occured both BEFORE and AFTER the surgery??? how do they explain this pain not near the surgery site? I feel as though the crowding occured because my x-ray showed my lower wisdom tooth was growing completely sideways and into the nerve/other teeth., therefore causing pressure on the other teeth. And now that the pressure has been removed, the teeth are now expanding or shifting very slightly to their original location??
Wisdom Teeth?
The pressure you are experiencing could be the relief of the pressure that was placed on these anterior teeth. Or, it may be the anesthetic wearing off and leaving your mouth feeling strange and naturally uncomfortable. I don%26#039;t know what dentist and dental student you are referring to, but we all agree that the eruption of the third molars or wisdom teeth, can cause anterior crowding if there isn%26#039;t sufficient space for them.
Reply:just suck it up for a few days. the pain should subside in no time.

HELP! My teeth are becoming buck at 48 yrs old!?
A very strange phenomena is happening to me!
For the past few weeks I have this strange feeling/awareness of my teeth/bite. My upper and lower teeth have a strange sensation, like it is moving forward (similar to when I had braces on %26amp; the dentist was moving them in place).
I noticed that my upper teeth seem to be beginning to plow into my upper lip! It feels like they are becoming buck. My teeth were not buck as a teenager, they were just crooked. 3 of my siblings had severely buck teeth %26amp; had teeth pulled. They used a palette expander on me because they told me that if they pulled 4 teeth I would have a pan face in my 50%26#039;s which would make me look old. He gave me this horrible full mouth rubber exercise retainer which I hated and my teeth moved back somewhat crooked again.
Any ideas what my teeth are doing now and why my bite is changing? I very concerned. Could it be due to a medical condition. I don%26#039;t have dental insurance right now so can%26#039;t run to the dentist.
HELP! My teeth are becoming buck at 48 yrs old!?
You did not mention anything about your back teeth. One dental phenomenon that could be causing this is called %26quot;posterior bite collapse.%26quot; Usually this is what happens when you have had some back teeth removed, but not replaced. (I%26#039;m not talking about having teeth removed for braces, because that space is then closed.) You can also be grinding so much that you are causing the same thing. Your front teeth are not made to bear the weight of chewing without support of all of your back teeth and they start to %26quot;buck out%26quot; or flare in the anterior region.
It would seem unlikely, but this could also be related to a new tongue habit. In a younger person, we would routinely look for a tongue thrust, but if you never had one, it would seem odd that you started doing this at age 48. The tongue is a MIGHTY force, though, when it comes to moving teeth. Consider any changes in habit that might be significant.
If you can not find a dental cause, yes there are medical conditions that lead to expanding bone and the accompanying flaring of the teeth. Search on %26quot;acromegaly%26quot; and you will find all kinds of information on this hormonal condition that can lead to flaring of the teeth. I think this is the most common underlying condition, but I%26#039;m not an expert on this topic.
Reply:%26quot;It could happen,%26quot; but without seeing your teeth, I can%26#039;t really say... This would be more typical if you were missing the first molar right in the middle of your arch. Report It
Reply:Find a dentist who will work with you on payments, a change in your bite could indicate gum disease, and if you wait much longer, you won%26#039;t have any teeth to be concerned about.
Reply:Your whole body is changing- its morphing and will continute to morph until you die.

Reply:You may have an underlying systemic problem. A complete history and physical might shed light on something. There are countless medical problems that affect the teeth and gums. See your primary care physician for an exam and/or referrals to a specialist(s) to rule out systemic causes. Then see your dentist for a complete oral exam. It sounds like it COULD be chronic generalized periodontitis which will cause your teeth to shift. Depending on the diagnosis, the are usually several treatment options available to you. Sorry about the no insurance. Hope this helps.

Reply:I just got my retainers and decided to read up some facts about them (I know, kind of weird) but anyway, I found out that people%26#039;s teeth do shift and change (even if not very noticeable) as people age. I would say that the change in the position, alignment, etc., of the teeth would be more drastic in a person who doesn%26#039;t have naturally straight teeth. I was reading that that%26#039;s why some people have their retainers for life, usually wearing it every night, every other night, a few months in a year even til old age (unless you get something cosmetically done). That would be more likely if you had crooked teeth and had braces.

Whitening teeth after filling in a chipped tooth?
I never whitened my teeth frequently, but about 8 months ago i chipped my front tooth and the dentist put whatever it is on the bottom of it to fill it in. I would like to whiten my teeth again (with just the strips) but I%26#039;m afraid that the part of my tooth that was chipped will change a different color than the rest of my tooth.
Anyone know if it%26#039;s possible to whiten teeth that have been filled after being chipped? I don%26#039;t wanna screw up my front tooth. lol
Thanks!
Whitening teeth after filling in a chipped tooth?
The bonding that was used to fill in your chipped tooth will not whiten. If you whiten your teeth now, your natural teeth will turn whiter, but the bonding will stay the same color. So if you whiten the bonding will become very apparent.

Teeth HELP! i need new teeth and fasssstt?
I am not happy with my teeth. I grind my teeth every night while sleeping since i was a kid. My lower teeth are messed up and my upper teeth is just as bad. I want my dentist to fix my teeth! But some have holes and/or cracked and stuff. What would be my best option? how much does it cost to get something like implants or whatever....take note those detachable false teeth is not an option. thanks!
Teeth HELP! i need new teeth and fasssstt?
Implants can cost anywhere from $2500-$3000, depending on where you live. Its actually a quite lengthy procedure. It can take up to a full year before your implants are %26quot;fully operational%26quot;. They do have great success rates (over 90%) and last decades. There is always the option of fixed appliances such as crowns or bridges. A bridge is simply two crowns on each side of the missing tooth with a false crown in between, giving the appearance of another tooth. A Maryland bridge is a false tooth that has a %26quot;wing%26quot; on each side that is cemented to the back f the neighboring tooth. It is the least invasive for crowns. Veneer crowns are the most appealing and natural looking. There is also invisaline. It is also known as the clear braces. They are intended to straighten teeth over a few months time. Its best to talk to your regular dentist to plan out your full treatment. You can email me with any other questions.
Reply:if you have dental insurance, you should see your dentist. he will be able to give you a plan of action and the finances. if you don%26#039;t have insurance go to your local dental college, it%26#039;s cheaper. for the grinding you need a night guard to sleep in at night. i wear one every night.

Permanent teeth coming in on top of baby teeth?
My daughter is 12 and has been very slow to lose her baby teeth. She is freaking out because she%26#039;s going to junior high this month and several of her permanent teeth are now coming in behind or on top of the baby teeth. In addition, the baby teeth are turning yellow, like maybe their root supply is cut off by the new tooth? We have a dentist appointment Thursday, but has anyone else experienced this? Will they just pull out the baby teeth (which are loose) and the permanent teeth will be OK? Thanks!
Permanent teeth coming in on top of baby teeth?
They will most likely remove the baby teeth so that the permanent teeth can start to grow into the right position. Don%26#039;t worry, although the new teeth are in the wrong position now, they almost always eventually move into the right position.
Reply:dont worry the dentist will know what to do. when i was around the same age the same thing happened. they just end up pulling out some teeth. its nothing
Reply:If the permanent teeth are coming out and the baby ones are in the way then they would prob pull out
Reply:the dentist will probably pull out the baby teeth and give her braces afterwards cause her teeth are not suppose to be growing in the back or the front direction. It won%26#039;t look right once the baby teeth are out, so i think she%26#039;ll need braces. My little cousin had the exact same thing happen to her when she was 10.
Reply:The dentist will probably pull out the baby teeth, especially since they%26#039;re loose anyway. There%26#039;s no way for us to know for sure if the permanent teeth will come in normally or not; I once had a tooth do this same thing (except the baby tooth wasn%26#039;t even loose and was just forced out by the permanent one) and it came in slightly crooked, but not so much that you can really see it. However, this may not even be the case and her teeth might come in fine; the dentist will be able to check it out and tell what will happen. As for the baby teeth turning yellow, it%26#039;s not because of anything with their %26quot;root supply%26quot; (they%26#039;re teeth, not plants); it%26#039;s more likely that they%26#039;re just taking on the yellowish hue of teeth that have already fallen out- this is fairly common with loose teeth.
Reply:The deciduous teeth are being pushed out or loosened by the permanent dentition%26#039;s eruption. This is the normal process so you have nothing to worry about.
The baby teeth appearing yellow is probably due to the permanent teeth being much whiter, it just makes them more noticeable.
Her dentist may or may not remove the deciduous teeth, it will depend on if she wants to pull them herself or have him do it. Most prefer to avoid the injection and do it themselves. There is also a charge for each ones removal which you may want to avoid if at all possible.
So if she%26#039;s freaking out, tell her to get busy working them loose! Let her eat some apples, pears or corn on the cob; anything that will require her to bite into forcing some pressure on these teeth. She will be fine and they will eventually come out.
The deciduous and permanent teeth being in place at the same time is common. This alone will not negate the need for orthodontic treatment. Her permanent dentition as they erupt will be evaluated at her next appointment. Most likely her dentist will want to take a pano x ray which will show all of the teeth, even those that aren%26#039;t erupted yet.
Hope I%26#039;ve been of some help, good luck!

Stupid teeth. i cant smile!?
i wore braces since last year (im in the 8th grade), and when the dentist told me i had 2 missing adult teeth, i got really upset. and the missing teeth are next to my front ones. so when the doctor put the braces on, she skipped my two teeth. so everytime i smile, the two teeth would stand out because it%26#039;s still baby teeth and the color is really white, while the adult teeth%26#039;s color is darker. what do i do? i hold my laughs or just force a wide, toothless smile so no one would see my different colored teeth. if i have to laugh out loud, i%26#039;d put my hand over my mouth. but now my friends are noticing that i do those things everyime i laugh or smile. what do i do? i really want to smile freely! rather than just talking in a serious face because if i talk while smiling, they could notice that i have two white baby teeth on the front. and when i talk to a boy that i like, i%26#039;d never smile, i%26#039;d always have this serious face, or i%26#039;d talk with my hand over my mouth if i cant hold the smile
Stupid teeth. i cant smile!?
I have the same problem, except I don%26#039;t wear braces and I don%26#039;t have two baby teeth and I am 13. I have really, really bad teeth that my mum always says my mouth looks likea treasure chest everytime I open my mouth because of the yellow colour. I just let my smile run free. I am a big laugher and I enjoy it. If everyone laughs at it, just make a joke about like, yeah I know hey? Then just change the subject. I hope I helped good luck!

To be satisfied with who you are and what you got is the best thing int he world.
Trust me i have been there but with different case

Reply:The dentist isn%26#039;t done with your teeth yet, right? If you%26#039;re getting real conscious, I suggest try for more subtler ways to hide your teeth, like develop a nice smile without showing your teeth... well, at least until your braces come off and your teeth get real nice again.

Second teeth coming in behind baby teeth?
My daughter has her first two adult teeth coming in (bottom front) but they are coming in behind her baby teeth...the baby teeth are not loosening. I would think the new tooth would come into the same place and push the baby tooth out and make it loose..?
I am taking her to see a dentist next week, I was just wondering what to expect. Will the dentist have to pull her baby teeth to let the new teeth come forward where they should be? Any parents have this experience before?
Second teeth coming in behind baby teeth?
An adults tooth, main function/job is to push the baby tooth out. BUT, if its not aligned straight to begin with, then NO it wont. Depending on your childs age, if the Doctor will extract it or not. If you child is 5ish-7ish, which is the typical time for these baby teeth to start coming out, they might let them ride for awhile longer, if their loose. If their not loose, they might take them out seeing how the permanet ones are coming in already. Let the Doctor take them... the sooner they come/get out.. the better it will be. *Sorry to say, sounds like braces are coming your way. At first notice of an adult tooth coming in, ALWAYS loose or not, have your child start working on the baby tooth, sometimes it does require a little help.
Reply:I%26#039;m 25,still have a baby tooth. My daughter has the same problem. Every Peds Dentist so far said her adult teeth will not coming behind the baby teeth. They did! I%26#039;m angrily searching for a new dentist. Report It
Reply:i have no clue, but poor lil girl... hope she doesnt have to go through too much
Reply:I am not a parent but my baby sister (not a baby anymore though) had this happen to her and they had to pull her baby teeth out to allow the adult teeth to grow in, Then they had to pull 5 of her adult teeth just so all her teeth would fit her mouth was so small. She had to get braces.
Reply:My brother had 3 sets of teeth. And my son has the same. These adult teeth will push the baby teeth out. When the adult teeth grow in you will notice other sets of teeth growing in behind the adult teeth. When this happens it will make all her teeth crooked and gaped. Also the extra teeth can be pain full. Take her to a dentist starting now and be sure to stay on a routine with your dentist. Some dentist won%26#039;t do anything about it until teenage or preteen years but start with a dentist now so he can know your child%26#039;s history.
In your case it may also be she is just an early bloomer and her teeth are coming in sooner. They can be pushed out if not the dentist will pull them. I hope she does have the 3 sets of teeth. Just told you about it in case. That is how my sons started. So if it does happen at least you know a little information about it.
Reply:The dentist will pull the baby teeth to make room for the 2nd set.
Reply:You are right about what usually happens. Sometimes, though, the permanent tooth simply misses the baby tooth and the baby root does not dissolve. It is pressure from the erupting tooth that initiates the resorption of the baby root.
My rule of thumb is this. If the permanent tooth is %26quot;half the distance%26quot; to the edge of the baby tooth and the baby tooth is still present, it has to be removed. You don%26#039;t need to be seen before your scheduled appointment next week, but kind of be ready to hear this suggestion.
Reply:I just want to add that those adult teeth WILL move forward all by themselves once the adult teeth are out and your child will not need braces because of this (maybe other issues if she is crowded, etc. but not because of this). This happens ALL THE TIME, and should you dentist decide to extract the baby teeth, it is not painful or a big deal. Those baby teeth will be ready to come out and the whole procedure will most likely take less than 5 minutes.
And, to prepare your child, tell them they are going to the dentist to have their shark teeth checked and their baby teeth may need to get wiggled out. Don%26#039;t make a big deal about it. There is no reason your child should be worried, and I think parents often put the fear into their own children about such things.

Wisdom teeth extractions?
Hi,
I was told by my dentist (who does not extract teeth) that I need to visit an oral surgeon and get all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted sometime soon.
I had braces about 5 years ago and my teeth have stayed in line the whole time without a retainer-- I can still wear my retainers now.
If I get my wisdom teeth removed, all at the same time, will my orthodontic work be affected? Will wearing my retainer for weeks after I get my wisdom teeth removed prevent crooked teeth/misalignment?
Has anyone gotten their wisdom teeth removed AFTER getting braces off? How did your teeth turn out?
Wisdom teeth extractions?
No. extracting your wisdom teeth generally will not affect the fit of your retainer. I think you%26#039;ll be good to go in a week or so afterwards. Lots of teens get their wisdom teeth out after finishing ortho.
go for it.
Reply:im 20 and just now get mine pulled tom. wisdom teeth come in at an angle push your other teeth out of line if you wait to long you will not have any problems after you get them pulled to wear your retainers and the definatly wont go crooked Report It
Reply:they turn out find they work that the braces did is done extracting will not hurt them at all
Reply:it is not a necessity that wisdom tooth have to be extracted as a compulsory, unless they are half erupted, give frequent problems, inaccessible to brushing, out of line, etc.
In case wisdom teeth are giving you problem you can remove them without any after effects... except related to surgery.

Unless they were specifically fitted to you, you wouldn%26#039;t be able to talk with them.
See about a dental college to have your teeth fixed, their rates are way cheaper and some even take payments.
Reply:try an orthodontist
Reply:no you cant buy teeth like that, they are expensive veneers and they are what all the actors get as soon as they get into enough professional business to pay for them. you can get a crown for one tooth at a time.
Reply:If you only chipped your teeth, you should just go to the dentist and get composit fillings. A dentist can also tell you the possibilities of vaneers, which is exactly like getting fake nails. But if you want to go the expensive route, you would want to google cosmedic dentistry. That is the only other alternative to going to a general dentist.
Reply:Try Snap on smile in your search engine. They run about two thousand I believe, but they snap right over your existing teeth for special occasions where you want a great looking smile. I believe there is one company that has celebrity looking teeth to choose from such as Julia Roberts, Halle Berry etc. good luck.

My teeth hurt so bad i cant take it?
The are several things that can make your teeth hurt, and it%26#039;s hard to say without an exam which one it may be. It could be from a sinus infection. Since you had/have an ear infection, it%26#039;s possible it has spread to a sinus cavity in your cheek. Since the nerves from the teeth also pass near by, the teeth could hurt as a result. You could also have a problem with one of the teeth as well. If you think the problem with the ear has returned, then go see the doctor. If the area around the cheekbone is feeling tender or hurts, the doctor would also be able to help. If it%26#039;s not any of these, then the dentist would be your best bet. Either one can do an x-ray of that part of your face and very quickly be able to tell what is causing your pain.
Reply:Sounds like some kind of nerve problem with that tooth. The only over the counter meds that help me is Aleve or Exederin. Hope you feel better.

Baby teeth extraction?
My son is 6 years old. His bottom central inscisor teeth are a little loose. I took him to the dentist today for a checkup and his permanent teeth are already growing in behind them. They are through the skin already. The dentist said give it two weeks and see if he can wiggle them and get them out. His permanent teeth that are growing in are so wide that the bottom lateral incisor teeth are in the way. He suggested pulling out them out to make room for the new teeth. He said if they were not taken out that his teeth would grow in crooked and crowd the other teeth which would increase his chance out cavities because they would be basically right on each other. I am a little worried about him pullung teeth before they are ready to come out and the pain that my son would experience afterwards. Has anyone done this for their child or had personal experience with this. Please tell me good and bad. Any advice is helpful.

1. It is normal for the lower front adult teeth to come up behind the baby teeth and then push forward over time. There is no need to wiggle them, it will happen gradually but surely.
2. It is normal for there to be insufficient space for the adult incisors. You should NOT take out the baby laterals to make room. This only leaves LESS room for the adult laterals, and compounds the problem at a later date. It is far better to allow the adult teeth come in even if they are crooked, than to risk impaction of the adult teeth.
3. These are adult teeth coming into a child%26#039;s mouth. That is one of the reasons why there is not enough room at present. As your child grows, their jaw will widen, and there will be more space.
4. Also, the combined width of the lower baby canine and molars is about 2.5mm greater than the adult teeth that will replace them. Odd, isn%26#039;t it? This will mean a gain of 2.5 mm when those back baby teeth fall out between 10-13 years old. In the top jaw it is about 1.5mm gain. So this will also help the front teeth spread out.
5. These reasons are why it is uncommon to do orthodontic treatment to children with baby teeth except in special circumstances. Some of these apparent crowding issues may self-resolve as your child gets older. You really won%26#039;t know their degree of crowding (if any) until all baby teeth have fallen out.
6. The chances of cavities in front adult incisors is infinitesimal as long as you are doing routine hygiene and diet.
7. If you are still unsure, consult an orthodontist. DON%26#039;T have the baby laterals or baby canines removed.
8. Change dentists.
Reply:My mum had to have a dentist pull one of her teeth out. Some chemicals were injected so that she could not feel the pain as the tooth was being pulled. She felt nothing but later a minor after-math of pain was present. So it wasn%26#039;t too bad, but if you choose not to pull them your son can always have braces. I used to have them. Hated them, but people are different. Your son may like braces. Would you want him to have braces in the distant future?
Reply:Normally, even if the teeth erupt crooked, as long as the baby teeth don%26#039;t set in the way for months, the teeth will still straighten once the baby teeth are lost. Adult teeth will often move foward after baby teeth are lost. Normally, baby teeth only need to be removed if the adult teeth are already through the skin and causing movement of adult teeth with no near sight of loss of the baby teeth. The only thing crowding will cause if possibly a need for braces if they do not straighten themselves out. In general, don%26#039;t worry, let the adult teeth push through some more and the baby teeth will probably fall out, especially if they are already loose, just keep him wiggling them. If the adult teeth come in and the baby teeth set in for over 1 month, then take him to have the baby teeth out. These teeth are normally not the ones that make the difference on needing braces, it is normally the ones that come in later. These teeth will normally move quite a bit after the baby teeth are lost. Unless, absolutely necessary, I would avoid an extraction unless needed b/c even though it is simple, it is better to wait as long as possible before beginning work on children b/c they understand it better and are less scared.

Teeth help...?
Hi again, i posted a question regarding my tooth some time ago. I have a follow-up question.
How is a tooth considered very loose, loose, or slightly loose? Also, how long does it take for loose teeth to firm up on its own? Is a month or 2 possible?
I%26#039;ve also noticed that the 1 or 2 teeth surrounding my traumatized tooth is starting to come loose tooth. I suspect a fracture of the alveolar since i think that my traumatized tooth was pushed inward during the fall. Is this possible?
If so, what are the treatment options and healing time? Thanks alot.
Teeth help...?
aw hon, just go to the dentist. It may cost some now, but in the future you will be very glad that you did!

Wisdom teeth extracted now it feels like my front teeth on the tongue side have receded gumline?
Yah so the front teeth on the inside closest to the tongue feel like I can almost feel under them or there is an indent where they slope down. After my wisdom teeth extraction my face was numb on my chin a bit of my lip and gumline on the front.. lots of purple veins etc.. the teeth went through phases of feeling numb and being soar. My teeth also felt like they were cracking or seperating the first night (likely stress being released, as my dentist explained there will be stress on the teeth for some time as they adjust)
So should I be worried my front teeth will fall out. I think that the healing wisdom teeth section may be stretching my gums as the holes shrink causing the gumline on the front to be stretched thinner explosing more of the previous area under my gome line on the front I don%26#039;t know how much room I have left on them, but it feel like there is a crack when I run my tongue along the bottom? are my teeth exposed now at the bottom what is the crack and tini burn felt.
Wisdom teeth extracted now it feels like my front teeth on the tongue side have receded gumline?
I had my gums recede a lot because of braces and teeth grinding. Having teeth that shift alot can cause that. So now I have notches at the bottom of most of my teeth where the gum once was. It doesn%26#039;t look too bad, my teeth just look a bit bigger than before and it can be more painful than usual eating very hot or cold foods, but its been four years or so since it started and other than occasional tooth pain(probably from the tooth grinding) I haven%26#039;t had many problems with it. First of all, having that much recession just because of wisdom teeth being taken out is kind of weird. I would get a second opinion from another dentist. If it looks bad or is bothering you, you can get gum grafts and it will look the same as before. You teeth probably won%26#039;t fall out just from receding. Not unless the gums recede a really lot. But since you had all of that numbness and pain and cracking feelings, you might want to check with a dentist just to make sure everything%26#039;s ok.

Teeth Implants?
I%26#039;m so self conscious,i%26#039;m 14 years old.At 6 i was sooo cute. Starting at age 7,my teeth just start growning so disordelry,i have one big tooth crossing across my middle tooth. Wich really makes it unacceptable.Nowerdays i%26#039;m really overlooked because my teeth. I always have loose teeth every since 10 every yeat that take 6 months to fall out and i can move it back and forth with my tooth even though its still tight. Some girls seen over it,some haven%26#039;t,some of the best have turned me down because my teeth, they didn%26#039;t have to say it,i knew. I%26#039;ve had people do everything over the years to tease me,at that friends. Some curl their wrist and put their hand in front their mouth and make it talk. Once two idiots put gum i gave them at that over their teeth to bother me. I%26#039;m not one of these crazy people though,i%26#039;m still a confident person,i learned to cope with it and ignore ignorance wich made some of it stop. But,i got a future of stardom in store and i can%26#039;t go on T.V. or release a cd.....

Abnormal teeth?
I still haven%26#039;t lost my primary second premolar, but my adult tooth has started to erupt at a 45 degree angle without my other tooth having fallen out. So for you non-dentists....one of my molars is still a baby tooth, but the permanent tooth has already started to come in at a 45 degree angle, but my baby tooth still hasn%26#039;t come out. I%26#039;m 15 so I realise it may be abnormal to still have baby teeth.
1. Is it abnormal to have baby teeth at 15
2. Will I need to have the baby tooth taken out if it doesn%26#039;t fall out on its own
3. Is it possible that I may need braces to move the permanent tooth into a normal position?
Abnormal teeth?
at your age you should have lost your %26#039;baby teeth%26#039;. I would think it wise to go along to your dentist at the next available appointment to get it sorted. The tooth that you then say is at an angle may then straighten in to place if this is caught early enough. I hope this helps.
Reply:I am almost certain that if you go and have your molar removed, the adult molar should slide into it%26#039;s place. When you get your wisdom tooth back there, it will further help push the adult molar into place.

Two front teeth are very sensitive to pressure, they strike bottom teeth all the time, should I polish them?
Hi I am 24. teeth condition overall are good. I was 23 when this polising took place on 11/5/2007. In 10/2007, I developed a lot of sensitivity to pressure on tooth 8, 9 right around the time I finished using crest whitestrips. I got stressed around this time and started clenching and biting my tongue really hard and well long story short my teeth hurt by mid october and when I would bite down teeth would strike down on the bottom teeth (actually they have always) and they would hurt bad and it would feel like teeth were loose. Well I went to this new dentist and he polished the back of tooth 8 and 9 a little and after he did that they were no longer striking and the pain healed in a day or 2! the teeth are still a little sensitive to pressure especially when I take my retainer off in the AM. Is polishing a bad idea? I have no crowns at all or fillings except for fillings on molars. PS, Ive always had most pressure on left of mouth therefore teeth on left show signs of wear.

The best advice would be to talk to your Dentist. I doubt a dentist would be on here to answer your question.....

Considering teeth bonding for chipped teeth does it look real or noticablely fake?
my front two teeth on the top got chipped off, so its smaller now and i was wondering instaed of getting venneers if i ask my dentist to do teeth bonding for the front will it work? I heard it is cheaper and i dont have money too afford venners so that is why i am considering teeth bonding. i remeber my dentist used some kind of cotton or filling when i had a cavity in the front of my teeth and than he filled it up and used some kind of really bright light and i had to wear glasses. When he was done it looked just like my teeth and i didnt notice the filling at ALL. is it possible for the dentist to contruct my teeth size and then do a mold and put it on my teeth so it will look good again? Any body with this type of experience or knowledge of teeth bonding please help! Thanks!

My friend did it and no one can even tell.
Reply:get some liquid calcium tablets and melt on teeth, makes teeth thicker
Reply:Absolutely! I used to be a dental assistant and that is what they will do for you. It is called a composite filling. They match it up perfectly with your teeth. You teeth may also be sensitive from the chips and it will help with that as well.
Not painful at all and very reasonable to the wallet. Good Luck
Reply:best way to get it done no one will notice but you
Reply:ya i use to be an asisstant and its not that the make a model of your teeth but they have to put what they call composite on your teeth its also used for fillings and the light is a curing light to make the compostie dry and harden the dentist can put it on your teeth and then shape it how you want your teeth to look. you%26#039;ll have to be careful the way you eat as not to break it lose like biting into an apple or stuff like that.

Are my crooked teeth inherited?
I have an overjet, crowding, a jaw irregularity, and a crossbite in which the molars of my lower jaw are pushed somewhat inward. Only my two front teeth protrude forward, and my incisors are turned. The rest of my teeth don%26#039;t protrude forward. Also, my jaw is too far back and needs to be pushed forward. However, none of these problems resemble either of my parent%26#039;s teeth, or my grandparents%26#039;. My sisters always had perfect bites, but their teeth (mainly the incisors) were just a little crooked before braces. I don%26#039;t know of anyone else in my family with teeth like mine. Is my maloclussion inherited or is my mouth too small to hold all of my teeth? Also, my baby teeth took a long time to come in. I%26#039;m 15, and I just got my last baby tooth pulled about a month ago. The strange thing was, most of my permanent tooth had already erupted while the baby tooth was still there. That happened with some of my other teeth too. And, three of my second molars haven%26#039;t come in yet.
Are my crooked teeth inherited?
Most often, crooked teeth, overbites, and underbites are inherited traits, just like the color of your eyes or size of your hands. Other causes of misaligned bites are early loss of baby or adult teeth; improper fit of dental restorations (for example, fillings or crowns); a jaw that is too small to accommodate erupting teeth; gum disease; undue pressure on the teeth and gums; misalignment of the jaw after severe facial injury; tumors of the mouth or jaw; or habits like prolonged thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, pacifier use beyond the age of three, or prolonged use of a bottle.

My teeth are so bad!! Need dental advice?
My teeth are so bad, its either cavities, or my teeth are startin to decay, due to tiny holes in the sides. about 3 or 4 teeth hav this problem. I also hav a half cracked chewing tooth, but havnt been to the dentist. And to add to these problems, my teeth are slightly crooked, which shows i should hav had braces when i was younger (im 20 now). I havnt visited the dentist in atleast 7 years. this is not because i am unhygienic, but rather i am afraid of needles in my mouth, and having teeth pulled out with pliers. And now i am regreting leaving my teeth in such a state, as i am now 20, and will no way be able to afford dental care. Is there anyway of recieving free dental care, as i am still a student, i understand the NHS may offer free dental care, but do they provide braces!! and at my age braces will braces look silly.. so would the NHS use invicible braces...
Any advice/info would be really helpful.
My back teeth are hurting as i am writing this..
PS i do brush my teeth btw
My teeth are so bad!! Need dental advice?
You still have time. Just go to a good dentist. If you%26#039;re really scared of needles in the mouth etc ask if you can have stuff done under sedation. If you%26#039;re entitled to free you can get that for free. They%26#039;ll put you to sleep and do the stuff that needs doing. Please dont wait until its too late. I know its easy to say but just put your fear to one side and think of your teeth. You wont get another set. Just go and see a dentist for a check up, and see what advice they can give you and take it from there. Good luck.
Reply:You definitely need to see a dentist. Not even for cosmetic purposes, but for your health. If you get an infection it can lead to the blood stream and to your heart. I would see if the state can offer you any assistance. Also check local colleges. Usually students studying to become dentists will provide you care at a discounted rate. I understand your fear of needles, TRUST ME, I understand. I shake like a leaf and have to take an anxiety pill before I go, but I go. Best of luck to you. I hope you find one. Also call your local dentists in your area and see if they accept payment plans. And no, braces on a 20 year old would not look silly. Better late then never if you need to have them.
Reply:Nikki is correct, you need to get to a dentist as quickly as possible, not for cosmetic reasons, but for your own health.
The sooner you go the sooner you%26#039;ll get everything sorted out, and the less painful and expensive it will be.
If you call NHS Direct on 0845 46 47 they will be able to give you a list of NHS dentists in your area. Ring around and you%26#039;ll find somewhere eventually. You can get a form from them and they will provide your treatment for free.
Don%26#039;t worry about the braces at the moment. You want to get those cavities and all the decay sorted out. Don%26#039;t worry about the needle, either. I had my first filling 6 months ago and had never had an injection in my mouth before and was nervous as hell. To my relief, it actually didn%26#039;t hurt that much at all. It was more of a sort of dull ache that lasted just a few seconds.

Reply:first go to a gp to check there are no other problems in the mouth area,
here in Leeds we have a dental hospital which any one can go sign to become gineuae pigs, as these are dental students doing a dental course to become future dentists so your mouth/teeth would delight them, if you lived here, is there one in your town?.
look into the benefit system by visiting the DSS offices about dental treatments, with the sound and description of your teeth expect 2months work on them for them to be perfect, again, but keep brushing them and listerine is good, so is swilling with salt water, salts a antiseptic which will heal anything sore oil of cloves rubbed on aching teeth eases the pain, but you do need to see a dentist, bad teeth, often leads to a bad stomach.

Reply:GO see a dentist! Have him prioritize what needs to be done. You%26#039;ll be surprised most of them will be helpful if you will just be honest and sincere about wanting to get the work done but with financial difficulties. Some dental offices offer a %26#039;credit card%26#039; to use towards dental work. They even offer zero interest.
Reply:You need to see the dentist as you obviously have caries, I cannot tell you if its a root canal treatment or just a restoartive filling because I havent sene them myslef, you nee dto go and at least have XRays taken to find out whats wrong, if you are afraid of needles and things I suggest you see a denitst who specializes in SEDATION as it iwll help you, they will put you to slepe completely relaxed and you wont felel a thing only to wake up 5 hours later with you r teeth all fixed, at least look into sedation dentistry its helped many people like you before.
Reply:You have to go to a dentist to get things sorted before you end up with plastic teeth! And forget about ortho for the moment. No orthodontist will touch you until you are dentally fit and you can show that your oral hygeine is up to scratch. This is becaues your teeth are very vunerable to decay when you are wearing ortho appliances.
Go and get registered. A check up is free and xrays only cost a few pounds. Your dentist will give you a written estimate and if you let him/her know what you can afford at this stage thay can tell you what needs to be done most urgently. Then you can save up to complete the work. Also at a check up you can see if you like and trust the dentist and let them know that you are nervous. Trust me! As a dentist not a day goes by without somebody coming through the door like you that just needs a little help to get back into the routine of going to the dentist. Dentists are used to dealing with nervous patients.
Don%26#039;t use money as an excuse to put it off. Get on as many waiting lists as you can to find a dentist and start saving while you are waiting to be accepted by one. Once your teeth are gone there is no getting them back and dentures are not sexy!!!
