Second teeth coming in behind baby teeth?

My daughter has her first two adult teeth coming in (bottom front) but they are coming in behind her baby teeth...the baby teeth are not loosening. I would think the new tooth would come into the same place and push the baby tooth out and make it loose..?





I am taking her to see a dentist next week, I was just wondering what to expect. Will the dentist have to pull her baby teeth to let the new teeth come forward where they should be? Any parents have this experience before?

An adults tooth, main function/job is to push the baby tooth out. BUT, if its not aligned straight to begin with, then NO it wont. Depending on your childs age, if the Doctor will extract it or not. If you child is 5ish-7ish, which is the typical time for these baby teeth to start coming out, they might let them ride for awhile longer, if their loose. If their not loose, they might take them out seeing how the permanet ones are coming in already. Let the Doctor take them... the sooner they come/get out.. the better it will be. *Sorry to say, sounds like braces are coming your way. At first notice of an adult tooth coming in, ALWAYS loose or not, have your child start working on the baby tooth, sometimes it does require a little help.

Reply:I am not a parent but my baby sister (not a baby anymore though) had this happen to her and they had to pull her baby teeth out to allow the adult teeth to grow in, Then they had to pull 5 of her adult teeth just so all her teeth would fit her mouth was so small. She had to get braces.
Reply:My brother had 3 sets of teeth. And my son has the same. These adult teeth will push the baby teeth out. When the adult teeth grow in you will notice other sets of teeth growing in behind the adult teeth. When this happens it will make all her teeth crooked and gaped. Also the extra teeth can be pain full. Take her to a dentist starting now and be sure to stay on a routine with your dentist. Some dentist won%26#039;t do anything about it until teenage or preteen years but start with a dentist now so he can know your child%26#039;s history.





In your case it may also be she is just an early bloomer and her teeth are coming in sooner. They can be pushed out if not the dentist will pull them. I hope she does have the 3 sets of teeth. Just told you about it in case. That is how my sons started. So if it does happen at least you know a little information about it.

Reply:You are right about what usually happens. Sometimes, though, the permanent tooth simply misses the baby tooth and the baby root does not dissolve. It is pressure from the erupting tooth that initiates the resorption of the baby root.





My rule of thumb is this. If the permanent tooth is %26quot;half the distance%26quot; to the edge of the baby tooth and the baby tooth is still present, it has to be removed. You don%26#039;t need to be seen before your scheduled appointment next week, but kind of be ready to hear this suggestion.
Reply:I just want to add that those adult teeth WILL move forward all by themselves once the adult teeth are out and your child will not need braces because of this (maybe other issues if she is crowded,etc. but not because of this). This happens ALL THE TIME, and should you dentist decide to extract the baby teeth, it is not painful or a big deal. Those baby teeth will be ready to come out and the whole procedure will most likely take less than 5 minutes.





And, to prepare your child, tell them they are going to the dentist to have their shark teeth checked and their baby teeth may need to get wiggled out. Don%26#039;t make a big deal about it. There is no reason your child should be worried, and I think parents often put the fear into their own children about such things.
